The XC60 is Volvo’s middle-weight luxury SUV and sits below its flagship SUV, the XC90. The five seater SUV has been built on the new electric-ready platform and has been designed to fit in with all the new Volvo cars.
The butch-looking SUV gets the signature Thor headlamps and the high-mounted vertically slatted grille. In spite of it being a five seater, the profile reveals an almost a three-cab design which spacious. The signature shoulder line of the XC series continues to dominate the proceedings while the slightly flared wheel arches and the large alloy wheels give it the required muscle. The essence of the tail design has been carried over but, of course, with the modern touches.
Inside, the XC60 is as tech laden as the flagship XC90. You get the large touchscreen display for the centre console along with the big vertical AC vents on both sides. The dashboard is defined by the silver flute-line that runs across its width. The seats are leather and you have massaging seats in the front while both the front and rear seats are ventilated. The steering wheel can also be heated and it comes with a panoramic sunroof as standard.
In terms of safety, the XC60 surpasses all the global tests with full marks. It gets eight airbags along with collision mitigation, pedestrian safety and everything that you can dream about.
In terms of the powertrain, the XC60 is powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel as the XC90 and it develops a nice 235bhp of power, more than anyone else in that segment. It also gets torque on demand all-wheel drive as standard. It also gets air suspension for superior ride quality along with different driving modes for varied needs.
The XC60 competes with the German trio, namely the Mercedes GLC, the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3 along with the British cousins – the Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Range Rover Evoque. Also, the upcoming Lexus NX SUV will also compete with the XC60.
